The 7-mile-long barrier island Shell Island is located at the south-eastern tip of Panama City Beach Florida's natural reserve, St. Andrews State Park. This stretch of undeveloped beach, coastal scrubland, pine hammocks and white sand separates St. Andrews Bay's Gulf of Mexico. Shell Island is an oasis for wildlife and marine life, as well as beach lovers looking for a day away from the condominiums, resorts, and condos along the coast.
Shell Island, an undeveloped barrier island and beach stretching 7 miles long, forms the southern portion of St. Andrews State Park. Shell Island is accessible by boat, private boat, or the Shell Island Water Taxi. This island is a must-see spot for tourists who desire a pristine beach experience. The island is ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Walking inland on the island allows you to see rare Florida birds, plants, and wildlife in their natural state.
We pick up and drop off approximately 2.2 miles down the island at the State Park docks� We do not drop off behind the Jetty area� It is a nature-preserved part of the island so there are no restrooms, shade, or food available on the island.� Snorkeling and scuba equipment are not available for rent on the island or at any of our store locations.It will take about 15 minutes to reach our dock at the island.
Snorkeling is good around the St. Andrews State Park jetty, and excellent out on Shell Island. Habitats range from sand bottom, to shallow grass flats, to the rocky faces of the jetties. Expect to see tropical fish, crabs, rays, and if you are lucky, a sea turtle or some of the resident bottlenose dolphins.
Shell Island Water Taxi offers a simple and affordable solution. You don't need to rent a pontoon rental for $400 per day. That would be too costly and complicated.
