Panama City Beach’s latest wreck is El Dorado. Hurricane Michael brought the ship to shore in October 2018. She stood abandoned at the Hathaway Bridge in October 2018, as a constant reminder about the storm's terrible wrath during winter and spring. She started her life at the top of the dive sites in May 2019.
A Navy minesweeper tender, measuring 184' in length with a 33" beam, was sinking as a dive rescue training site in 1987. Storms destroyed the bow, and it was found on the port side. The boat rests intact and is upright, rising 20ft above the water.
The wave interval is more important than the absolute size of the waves in the area around Panama City Beach.
