Warsaw Reef is one the top reef dives. It's an artificial hole with concrete rubble & tire bundles. The hole is loved by the fish, who travel to nearby wrecks like Black Bart.
The Black Bart, a 180 foot vessel, was built in 1993 to create an artificial reef. Vulcano del Golfo, which was christened in 1977, is dedicated to Charles' Black Bartholomew, Navy Supervisor for Salvage Captain. He died in 1990 while diving off Panama City Beach. His accomplishments include the Recovery of Space Shuttle Challenger, and the Navy's Cleanup of Exxon Valdez Oil Spill. This is a poetic tribute to Charles' Black Bart, a supply ship for oil rigs.

The wave length and frequency are more important factors in the seas surrounding Panama City Beach. Long interval waves are what create rollers. Short interval waves rock the boat up and down, making it difficult for divers to be seen in the water.
In October of 2018, Panama City Beach took a direct hit from Hurricane Michael, a category 4 storm. With maximum sustained winds 154 mph and over 10 ft storm surge, it was the strongest storm on record to make landfall in the Panhandle. Over 650 artificial reef patches experienced hurricane-force winds.
