You may have noticed we haven’t covered cutting speed. Although you can cut up 500 inches per minute using a tube cutter, it's not always practical. Laser tube cutting involves focusing on the time required to load a tube, index the tube so it's in a good position for cutting and then pierce, cut and unload the part. It is not about cutting speed, but part-processing time when laser tube cutting machines are used.

You might have noticed that cutting speed has not been discussed yet. While it is possible for a tube to be cut at up to 500 inches per min, that is not always possible. Laser tube cutting requires that you focus on the time it takes to load a tube and index it in order to cut. Laser tube cutters are slow and take a lot of time to process parts.

Many believed that fiber lasers were only suitable for thin materials. Because of its longer wavelength, CO2 created enough kerf to allow for material removal. The fiber laser could not produce the same results or kerf with thicker materials. This problem has been solved by collimating technology, which can create a wider fiber laser-generated beam. This allows for materials separation and more room to remove thicker materials. The machine can switch between the beam widths, so it can process thinner materials with the narrower beam. This allows for faster processing of different-sized materials using the same fiber laser cutting machine.
