After the Voortman technician has completed calibrating and installing your machine, he will spend some time with your operators to teach them our simple but thorough training program. The following training will be provided to your operators:

Peddimat can be mastered in less than an hour, even if it is the first time you have used a computer.

GSS Machinery will provide you with as many options as you need when drilling with your CNC Drill Line.

Voortman's 24-hour tech support can resolve 90%, but there is an extensive network of 50+ Voortman service personnel who are stationed in North and South America as well as Europe, Africa and Asia.

There are two options when it comes to CNC machinery. One is a Vertical Machining center and one is a CNC router. You can use both pieces of equipment for different reasons. Which one should I choose?

Voortman has created the CNC beam drill line standard today using proven technology. Advantage-2 processes 150 tons of steel an average of once a week. The Advantage-2 is highly efficient in drilling, milling and tapping as well as countersinking.

Voortman AccuMeasure Roller Feed measurement machine offers different saw measurements. AccuMeasure is flexible in handling and has a simplified CNC solution. Splitting apart a saw and drill allows each machine to work simultaneously, increasing production.

We at GSS Machinery are often asked by our customers what drill bits should they use – twist drill bits or insert bits? Our number one agenda is to ensure that our customers pursue the lowest cost per hole drilled, as this will make them more competitive and profitable. However it is important that they fully understand their options, Insert Drill Bit (Spade Drill Bit ) Advantages

Voortman built the CNC Drill Line only for GSS Machinery. Voortman manages the installation, warranty and maintenance of the CNC Drill Line. Voortman is the service provider. GSS Machinery is available to help if needed.

Let’s compare Twist Drill Bits and Insert Drill bits in the real life fabrication situation. We will just look at one example – 13/16? (22mm), which is typically the most commonly drilled hole diameter.

Beam drills are essential tools for medium-sized to large-sized structural fabricators. Beam drill lines can accurately drill holes in various steel profiles of different lengths and with CNC controlled programming. These machines remove the need to manually draw or lay out the positions. Instead, the machine produces the hole using a mag drill punch, plasma, or punch. This laborious process can take many hours and may require several employees. A beam drillline eliminates the need to manually plan and avoids any errors.

Not every problem can be diagnosed with remote assistance. Mechanical issues or questions that require the human eye are still common. Voortman machines are shipped with high definition web cameras and software; allowing Voortman employees to directly experience the activity at the installation without the need to leave the office. The webcam has significant value in foreign countries or in situations where language might be a barrier to effectively communicate the issue.

Frequently Asked Questions

According to the International Residential Building Code (IRC), 2021, a common 6x6 softwood beam span is 3'-5" to 7'-6". The wood's strength and other variables affect how long the span. While hardwood of similar dimensions will span more than steel, the cost difference can be substantial.

Which drill can I use to drill steel beams with? You can use drills made of high-speed steel (HSS), as mentioned previously. You can drill with a twist drill, core drill, or hole saw in the HSS, HSS-5, and tungsten carbide tool steels. You can also use hole saws, which do not drill into the workpiece as well as core drills.

To increase your beam's bending capability, you will need to increase the second moment (I) if your beam design is controlled by yielding in bend (not lateral-torsional or plate buckling). This is usually done by attaching additional plates to your beam, often onto the flanges.

Manufacturers limit beams to 60 feet due to transport issues. Others can make beams up to 80 feet long. The longest supported span using LVL is 80 feet. It is normal for continuous LVL spans to be between 20'-30'.

Drill blowout can be prevented by attaching a scrap of wood to the backside the piece that you are drilling on. When you drill the whole, wood that would have otherwise "blown out", hits the scrap wood instead and stays in place.
